This year, we’re officially introducing aggregate scoring to help determine our League Champion. It’s something we’ve been testing quietly over the last couple of seasons, and after seeing how well it worked, we’re making it official.
In past years, the league champion was the Round 3 A Division winner. Going forward, we’ll still recognize Division winners after each round, but we’ll also crown an Aggregate League Champion – the team with the best performance across the entire season.
Here’s what’s changed and why:
- Each division now uses a points-based system (replacing the old 2/1/0 for W/T/L).
- Total points determine round standings and which teams move up or down between divisions.
- Aggregate scoring combines those points across all rounds to determine the overall League Champion.
This approach keeps more teams in the running all season long and better reflects consistency, participation, and effort – key parts of what make our league great. It’s also the same model used by many other 2SLGBTQIA+ curling leagues. And yes, you still earn points for every game you play! Our scoring model values showing up and competing, while still rewarding wins most of all.
Past Approach
A through F Divisions:
W = 2
L = 0
T= 1
New Approach
A – W = 25 – L = 20 – T = 22.5
B – W = 23 – L = 18 – T = 20.5
C – W = 21 – L = 16 – T = 18.5
D – W = 19 – L = 14 – T = 16.5
E – W = 17 – L = 12 – T = 14.5
F – W = 15 – L = 10 – T = 12
The new scoring model differentiates between wins, losses and tied games as well as between division skill level.
No changes to tiebreaking or division champions
*Ties in total points at the end of each round will be settled as follows:
a. Most wins between the tied teams.
b. Head-to-head result between tied teams.
c. +/- from the games between the tied teams.
d. +/- of all the games in the division.
e. Coin toss.
*Round 3 standings will be used to determine the division champions at the end of the season.
