Hey Rainbow Rockers! As we open our 25th anniversary season, we want to extend a heartfelt welcome to all our returning curlers and everyone joining us for the first time. For a quarter century, the league has thrived thanks to the dedication, sportsmanship, and community spirit that have shaped the Rainbow Rockers into what it is today. Player etiquette
If you haven’t already done so, please take the time to familiarize yourselves with the league rules, as well as the spares rules. It is the responsibility of all league members and spares to know and follow these rules. We also encourage you to review the league’s curling etiquette - this is especially important for new curlers.

Check your gear
Before your first draw, take a minute to make sure your equipment is ready for the season. Goldline’s pre‑season checklist highlights a few simple but important steps:

- Inspect your shoes: Ensure your slider isn’t cracked and your gripper still has traction.
- Check your broom: Look for worn heads or loose parts; replace if needed.
- Clean your gear: Gloves, pads, and bags collect dust over the summer.
- Confirm head protection: Make sure helmets or protective gear fit properly.
Alleviating Draw Pressure Schedules
A busy season means schedule conflicts happen and that’s normal. The league has several built‑in options to help teams stay flexible and keep games running smoothly.

- Review your team’s calendar to spot problem dates early.
- Line up spares in advance. The league list has 20+ names, and 25 teams have fifth players available.
- Submit a bye request if your team can’t field enough players. Only 4-6 bye slots exist per weekend, so availability is limited.
- You need three players to play.
- At least two must be original roster members (e.g., two roster players + one spare).
- Re-check your upcoming schedule once round dates are posted.
- Missing 1-2 players → use spares or play with three.
- Missing 3-4 players → submit a bye request; these receive priority.
- Confirm availability quickly once game times are published.
- The spares list now includes emails and phone numbers for faster coordination.
- Rescheduling is limited and must be agreed on by both teams and approved by the Drawmaster.
Forfeiting is a last resort. Notify the Drawmaster immediately so the ice can be reassigned.

Website Login Reminder
To access your member account on the Rainbow Rockers website, you'll need to set up a password if you haven't already done so. Simply visit the Reset Password page and enter the email address you used to register for the season. You will receive an email containing a link to create your password.

A few things to keep in mind:

- Be sure to use the same email address associated with your Rainbow Rockers membership (the email address you received this message on).
- Check your spam or junk folder if you don't see the password reset email within a few minutes.
- Once your password is set, you can log in and access member information throughout the season.

Submitting Scores
Please remember to submit your score after each game. For Thirds (or whoever may be replacing them): Log into the website and enter your scores on the Submit Score page as soon as possible after your game ends. Getting scores in is the first step in keeping division and season standings up to date after each weekend. It is especially important on the final weekend of each round, when we need to finalize standings quickly to prepare the draw schedule for the next round.

Practice Ice
Looking for additional ice time? Open sheets are periodically made available for teams and individual members to rent for practice throughout the season at $20 per 1-hour. Please monitor the new ice rental page on our website for real-time updates as sheets become available and bookings are confirmed. The first available practice ice is Saturday, Oct 3rd at 2, 3 and 4 PM.

Buy/Sell Equipment
League members are responsible for having their own equipment to play (i.e., curling broom, curling shoes or slider, gripper, etc.). There is a Goldline store in Nepean (210 Colonnade Road, Unit 1) or you can order online. We strongly recommend replacing your gripper each year.

If you’re looking to find a new home for some of your old equipment, or are a new curler looking to buy used equipment, we invite you to take advantage of the RRCL “Buy/Sell” spreadsheet that can be accessed from the RRCL website.

Beginner/Refresher Clinics
The league will be holding two Beginner/Refresher Clinics prior to the start of the season. These sessions are intended to cover basic delivery mechanics, sweeping technique, game rules, and on‑ice safety procedures.

These clinics are mandatory for all new curlers to ensure participants understand the safety expectations and fundamental skills required for league play. So save the dates!

Participants may attend either session:
|
- Thursday, October 1 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm
- Saturday, October 3 from 2:00pm - 5:00pm

Annual General Meeting
Join us for the league AGM on Saturday October 24th 6:30pm - 8:00pm at the Ottawa Curling Club.

6:00-7:30 PM - Celebrating the OCC! Join us in celebrating the love and support the OCC has shown the league for 25 seasons.

- RRCL and OCC exchange anniversary messages.
- Presentation of the RRCL’s annual donation to the OCC.
- Presentation of an RRCL Honorary Life Membership to the Club Manager, Dalal Abou-Eid.
7:30 PM - League Games Night (Euchre, Rummoli, Poker). Join in with members, family and friends for our first social night of the year.

Over the Rainbow Bonspiel
The Over the Rainbow Bonspiel returns January 21–24, 2027, as we celebrate 20 years with this year’s theme: Roaring ’20s! Expect a weekend filled with curling, food, drinks, entertainment, and plenty of community fun and now bigger than ever with 10 additional team spots and play across two clubs. Team registration opens Sunday, October 18 at 8 PM, so mark your calendars as spots fill quickly. We’re also looking for a few more volunteers to take on coordinator roles; if you’re interested, please reach out to bonspiel co‑chairs Sean Addis or Laura Barkley at [email protected]. If you’d like to sign up as a spare, you can register directly on the website when it goes live. Don’t miss your chance to celebrate 20 years of the Over the Rainbow Bonspiel on and off the ice!
