New Season … Curling Updates

Hello Rainbow Rockers,
I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of the 2019-20 season! Just a few reminders about our league as we get underway ….

    Curling Equipment:

All curlers are expected to bring their own curling equipment to their games. Rental shoes and rental brooms will NOT be available on an ongoing basis (they were available the first week only, as a courtesy from the OCC).

As a result we have created a Curling Equipment Buy/Sell area to the RRCL website where members can post curling items that they want to sell and buyers can check out items for sale. This site can be edited by all members, so please be respectful and edit only those items that you personally post. Once you log into the RRCL website, look on the right hand side bar for the “Buy/Sell” button.

The OCC club manager, Dalal, has some of the older wooden brooms to sell, and also some 10% off coupons for the pro-shop in the club. See Dalal personally for these.

Canadian Gay Curling Championship + other bonspiels:

We have 1 Ottawa team that will represent Ottawa at the Canadian Gay Curling Championship in Vancouver Jan 23-26, 2020. We can send 2 teams to represent Ottawa and would very much like to have a 2nd Ottawa team in Vancouver – the league will subsidize members who go by covering their share of the entrance fee. Please talk to Steve by November 1st if you are interested.

You can also see other LGBT bonspiels in Canada at:
The Edmonton Icebreaker Bonspiel registration recently opened, and there is also a local bonspiel at the Rideau Club, The Rideau Mens Spiel, Jan 24-26.

Next Game: Saturday Oct 19th

Due to our expansion, we need to fit more games into the schedule. This means all teams play on Saturday October 19th (2/4/6/8pm). Again, please bring your own equipment to play …. rental equipment is no longer available.

As a result of the added draw on Saturday, we will not be running a Euchre/Rumoli tournament. Instead there will be board games setup on tables in the club lounge after the 6pm & 8pm draws so that members and friends can play games in smaller teams as they wish. The kitchen will be open from 4:30pm to 8:30pm on Saturday.

As a side note, Jeremy, our Promotions Coordinator is often looking for assistance with the 50/50 after each draw … please let him know if you can help out occasionally.

Good Curling !
Steve H.
