 Skips Handout
Skips are requested to please pick up a one page handout before your first game and review the information with your teams.  Updates have been made to the Spares and Tiebreaker Rules.
 Strategy Clinic
A strategy clinic will be offered on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 1-5 PM at the mezzanine level of the Ottawa Curling Club.  Topics covered include: tactics vs. strategy, free guard zone, basic strategy, varying ice conditions and communications.  Skips, thirds and all curlers with a minimum of three years experience are invited to participate.  The cost is $10/person.  Please contact Lee Mantha at [email protected] to register before October 22, 2012.
 National Playdowns
From April 25 – 28, 2013, Halifax will play host to this season’s Canadian Gay Curling Championships.  Ottawa is eligible to send two teams.  Playdowns, if necessary, are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, January 12 and Sunday, January 13, 2013 (1 PM for the 1-2 match).  Teams interested in participating are to send an e-mail notification to [email protected] before 7:00 PM December 2, 2012.  Please include the names of all four team members and playing order.  An $80 registration fee per team is required.
NEW THIS SEASON – Ice Rental – Game Days 1:00 PM
A number of members approached the league over the summer and requested access to additional ice time that can be used for practice sessions and to make-up games.  Ice time is extremely limited at the Ottawa Curling Club; however we were able to rent the fifth sheet at 1:00 PM during all regularly scheduled games.  To recover a portion of the rental fee, a rate of $20 per hour ($40 for the two hour block) will be charged to members to access the ice.
Ice may be rented in one hour blocks for practice or instruction or in two-hour blocks for make-up games.  A schedule for the entire season will be posted to and reservations will be accepted using the e-mail address –  [email protected]  Complete details for reserving the sheet will be posted to the website shortly.
For make-up games, it is the skips responsibility to confirm with the opposing skip that the game will take place before reserving the ice.  Be sure to consult the schedule to make sure neither team is playing a regularly scheduled game at 1:00 PM.
Just a reminder that Rainbow Rockers curlers are not considered members of the Ottawa Curling Club and do not have ice privileges outside of our regularly scheduled ice times.
 Travelling Subsidy
Seven cities in Canada host active GLBT curling leagues and each hosts an annual bonspiel.  The League encourages our members to travel to other cities to enhance their curling experiences, but more importantly, to support the strength of other leagues across the country.  To help members with expenses, the RRCL offers a small amount of travel-assistance to full time members who participate in bonspiels outside of Montreal and Toronto.  This subsidy has been ongoing for several years and is again included in the 2012-13 budget.  In the past, each player received approximately $40-$50.  The total budget is divided by the number of participating curlers with funds distributed at the end of the season.
 Euchre Night
The ever-popular euchre/rummoli nights are back for the 2012-13 season.  The first will take place following the Saturday draws on November 3, 2012.  Mark your calendars and alert your friends.  Details to follow.
